Om Townsville Street Circuit:

Townsville Street Circuit is a reminiscent of the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. It winds its way through Reid Park where specially constructed roads form approximately 70 percent of the circuit.[1] Rod Nash Racing’s Paul Dumbrell suggested it is a high grip circuit. Ford Performance Racing (FPR) driver Mark Winterbottom suggested the circuit is like a standard racing circuit but in the middle of a city. It is a tough circuit that can catch drivers out. Winterbottom described the first corner is almost a clone to the turn eight at Adelaide Street Circuit which he tackled it very aggressively because it looks high speed with great passing opportunity.[2] The circuit quickly became a favourite of the V8 supercars' drivers.[1] The circuit's pit building is a permanent construction that can be used all year round for all sorts of events. There are five viewing mounds and grandstands that can seat approximately 12,000.

On 28 July 2008, the official V8 Supercar website reported that the Queensland Sports Minister, Judy Spence, said the State Government will contribute $2.5 million annually for the first five years of the event.[4] The 2009 Dunlop Townsville 400 was held from 10–12 July.[3] Sucrogen is the naming rights sponsor the race in 2010 and 2011.
